The interactive stack viewer has been adapted from our affiliated Journal of Radiology Case Reports and allows multiple functions that enhance the educational value of the provided cases.

The user may scroll through the entire image stack, window, level, zoom and pan the images as known from the workstation.



Interactive mode function

First of all: Adobe Flash Player is needed to use the interactive mode!

Dependent on the amount of images and your internet connection, it might take a while till all images for the stack have been loaded. If you scroll and the image has not been loaded it will be indicated by a "Loading..." note. Be patient!

The user may scroll through the image stack by using the scroll wheel on the mouse or by using the up and down keys of the keyboard.

The reset button (1) resets the currently selected function (back to normal window/level, size or pan)

The W/L button (2) activates the window/level function. It is activated by default when the user opens the image stack. Window and level just by clicking and holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse.

The user may zoom in (3) or zoom out (4) the image if a specific area of interest should be magnified. For each zoom step please click once on the image.

The area of interst may be centered or moved around with the pan function (5).

To activate either of these functions, please click on that appropriate button.

Now comes an example:

Lets' say you opened a case that contains image stacks - it will be indicated by thumbnails which are labeled "Image stack" (see red circle in figure below).

After clicking one of the thumbnails, a new window appears with the image stack (initially it indicates "Loading..." while the images are still loaded). In the right lower corner of the viewer you will see the tool bar where you can find the viewing functions explained above (red arrow in figure below).

The following figure is an example how an image can be modified by using the window/level function, e.g. to make some calcifications more conspicuous (compare above with bottom figures; red arrow = calcification).

Figure below is a direct comparison of the same image level using the window/level function. The calcification is better appreciated after windowing and leveling (red arrows):
