ARE YOU DENSE ? and impact on breast imaging
This is a group which intends to discuss the impact of the grassroot organization www.areyoudense.org on the practice of breast imaging in the US.
This basically is an effort based on personal experience of a patient in Connecticut to change legislature in such a way that every patients ''lay letter'' has to include the information about the density of the breast tissue on the mammogram. This was already successful in two states (CT and I believe TX) and efforts are on the way to change that in several other states.
The intend behind is to create a more individualized screening which pays attention to the fact that mammogram with dense breast are of more limited value, and additional screening (US -tomosynthesis or MRI) should be added.
This is often times criticized within the medical field. A lot of Radiologists see that critical. However there are some internationally well respected radiologists who advertise a more individual approach to screening for the breast, for example Christiane Kuhl from Germany.
What are your thoughts?

This is a topic which will affect breast imager in the US. Due to change of legistlature in Conneticut and Texas patients do dicuss the issue of 'dense breast' with their referring physician and there should be a flood of screening US being ordered.
What is the impact on the practice of Breast Imaging in these two states???
