Small bowel occlusion by congenital peritoneal band in adult: A case report
Small bowel occlusion by congenital peritoneal band
A 43-year-old man admitted to the emergency with an occlusive syndrome. He had no history of abdominal surgery. Computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvic (CT-scan) revealed a distension of small bowel loops upstream of a beak stopping image at the level of the right iliac fossa. The patient underwent an urgent laparotomy which revealed the presence of a necrotic closed loop of the distal ileum with an obstructing fibrotic band at its roots. The surgeon performed a band section followed by an anastomosis-resection of the necrotic loop.
